Heidelberg Choral Society presents Haydn's Mass In Time of War (Missa in Tempore Belli) and Schubert's Mass in A-flat Major, under the direction of Peter Bandy.

In 1796, Franz Josef Haydn composed this piece which is widely known for its dramatic use of timpani. It is one of the most popular of his fourteen masses. This piece has been long thought to express an anti-war sentiment, even though there is no explicit message in the text itself, and no clear indication from Haydn that this was his intention.

Franz Schubert’s Mass in A-flat Major is a work that time and again occupied the composer anew, with which he, in his words, strived towards the “highest in art”.

Heidelberg Choral Society and Orchestra will be joined by eminent soloists: Jacqueline Porter (Soprano), Margaret Orr (Mezzo Soprano), Timothy Reynolds (Tenor) and Nathan Lay (Baritone).

Performance: Saturday, May 11 (7.30pm) at Viewbank College Performing Arts Centre, 1 Warren Road, Viewbank.
Tickets: $45 adult or $40 conc. Bookings at www.trybooking.com/BBCKL or email (tickets@hcs.asn.au)
