One-off or repeat commissions

If an affiliate sends you a new customer, should you pay one-off commission on the first sale made or pay commission on all sales from that customer within the cookie life?

There are good reasons why customers split their purchases. Some will make a small purchase to test the merchant's site and delivery before making their intended larger purchase. Others wanting to send gifts or hampers to different addresses will process them as seperate orders.

My view is that all of those sales are the result of the original referral from the affiliate and therefore multiple or repeat transactions should track.

The better networks disclose full information about this setting to affiliates. If you are only paying commission on the first sale, this could be why affiliates are not promoting your program.
