*New Alternative to Affiliate Networks

The new OEPL performance marketing network, owned and operated by Online Encounters Pty Ltd, has gone live this week.

I see this as a natural progression in a rapidly evolving industry. The impetus for us to move in this direction came from ongoing dissatisfaction with many of the practices fostered by the anonymous nature of affiliate marketing.

We wanted to retain the benefits of the performance model for online advertising for both ourselves and our advertisers, but in a more controlled environment. Discussions with others in the industry made in clear that the only way to get what we wanted was to do it ourselves.

The OEPL network uses a white-label affiliate networking platform from DirectTrack, an established platform that powers many affiliate networks worldwide. However the OEPL network is not an open affiliate network that aims to have thousands of affiliates. The only "affiliates" are websites managed by Online Encounters and the only "merchants" will be the advertisers on our sites. The use of third party software offers the additional transparency that is needed to for all parties to maintain trust.

Although we are using similar software, we are not setting ourselves in opposition to the existing affiliate networks in Australia. The OEPL network provides a different service to those online advertisers who want performance marketing within traditional business relationships.

We value long-term relationships based on mutual benefit, communication and respect for each others brands and businesses where we can work with our advertisers to increase sales and identify new opportunities. Our advertisers know who they are dealing with and can see where and how they are being promoted - just like they expect with off-line advertising.

It also allows us more flexibility in working with key advertisers to find mutually-beneficial performance measurements, and work in with their own internal tracking, without having to fit into a third party's business model.

We will continue to work with some advertisers through affiliate networks, but only those who have the resources to manage their programs and safeguard our commissions. Those advertisers who don't have the time or resources to do this, or who prefer to operate in a more controlled environment, are welcome to join us.
